About Us
About Us:
Welcome to the homepage of the Sexuality and Gender Acceptance (SAGA) club at East Central High School! We are excited to have you join us on a journey of acceptance, understanding, and empowerment. SAGA is a space where students and staff can come together to promote tolerance, celebrate diversity, and work towards equity for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our Purpose:
At SAGA, our purpose is clear and powerful: to cultivate an environment where tolerance, acceptance, celebration, and equity thrive on the East Central High School Campus. We believe that everyone should be able to express themselves authentically and be respected for who they are.
What We Do:
- Building Friendships: SAGA provides a platform for students to build meaningful friendships. We foster connections that go beyond the surface, creating a community that supports and understands one another.
- Advocacy for Equitable Policies: We are committed to creating positive change within our school. SAGA members actively strive for policies that promote equity and inclusivity, making our campus a safer and more welcoming space for all.
- Fundraising for Causes: We believe in supporting causes that matter to our members. Through fundraising efforts, we contribute to important initiatives that align with our values.
- Learning from LGBTQIA+ History: Understanding our history is vital to progress. SAGA educates its members about the history of LGBTQIA+ trailblazers and their contributions, fostering a sense of identity and pride.
- Engaging in Creative Activities: We recognize the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL). SAGA engages in creative activities like artmaking, journaling, and team-building to promote self-expression, mental health, and empowerment.
Our Beliefs:
- We Are Connected: Within SAGA, we prioritize creating a warm and inclusive environment for all. Our community values fellowship, friendship, and support, ensuring that no one ever feels alone.
- Community Service and Activism: Our commitment extends beyond our campus. SAGA members participate in community service projects that benefit important causes and marginalized communities. We stay informed and active in campaigns that shed light on LGBTQIA+ issues.
- Self-Expression and Mental Health: We believe in the power of self-expression and self-love. Through creative projects, we uplift our members' mental well-being and empower them to embrace their authentic selves.
- The Power of Knowledge: Education is a cornerstone of our club. We explore LGBTQIA+ history, experiences, and global issues, fostering a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.
