Advanced Placement (AP)
AP, Advanced Placement, is a program where students can work at the rigor of college-level while still in high school. When students take AP classes, they demonstrate to colleges and universities that they sought out advanced courses that help prepare them for success in college and beyond.
Each AP course is modeled upon a comparable college courses. AP courses align with college-level standards. Students are encouraged to conclude their course with a college-level exam (AP exam). These exams are an essential part of the AP course experience. Most colleges and universities recognize AP exam scores in the admission process and accept scores for college credit. Best practice is to check with the accepting institution. AP credit and placement policies can be found online at this AP Students website.
Performing well on an AP exam means more than just completing the course. College Board research shows that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP exam earn higher GPA’s in college and have higher graduation rates.
